Making a podcast: 3 tips for a successful production
Setting up a content strategy and not including audio in the plans? Shame, because a podcast is the way to underline your thought leadership. A well-produced podcast shows that you are an expert in your field. To make a successful podcast, there are a number of things you need to take into account. With these tips, we will help you on your way. We tell you how audio is just as important as other forms of content and why integrating it into your overall strategy is not only smart, but necessary.
Tip 1. Let your story lead the way
A successful podcast production stands or falls with a good story. When producing a business podcast, you should look for a story that, for several episodes, remains interesting for your target audience. A good example is the podcast series we made for care institution Ons Tweede Thuis. This institution for people with physical or mental disabilities, autism and non-congenital brain disorders was immediately enthusiastic about the added value of a podcast production. This led to a series of great conversations with clients, on universal themes in life. Love, for example, but also: growing up, family, being scared and the value of art. This series contributes to an inclusive society, by showing that people with disabilities are also full interlocutors. This fits perfectly with the core value of Our Second Home: YOU & I.
Tip 2. Choose a podcast agency with ties to your core values
More and more companies want to make a podcast. They have to choose from a variety of podcast agencies. This can be a quest. It is often a good idea to choose a party that takes care of the entire content strategy. By integrating a podcast within the overall strategy, you can be sure that you are deploying the right mix of resources. A podcast agency that is not involved in the other media outlets may not always be able to tell the right story at the right time. Moreover, you can also better control the costs of a production. For example, because less time goes into devising and retrieving stories and because the added value of your organisation is already clear. This way, you keep the cost of having a podcast made low.
Tips for a successful podcast in brief:
- Make sure your story engages your target audience in multiple episodes
- Work with an agency that can integrate your podcast into your overall content strategy
- Choose an experienced producer who knows what it takes to make a good production
Tip 3. Choose an experienced party
Audio is gaining in popularity. Because it is an accessible way to produce content, many people are making podcasts. That means there are also more and more companies producing them. That includes many podcast producers who have little experience and no clear vision for making them. People often underestimate how difficult it is to make a distinctive podcast. To produce a good podcast, you need more than two microphones, a moderator and a mixing board. It takes a clear plan and a vision of how a podcast contributes to your vision and goals. Without that content strategy, it is a waste of time and budget to make a podcast.
